Trends 2010

by HoTWire 20. January 2010 05:54

Well 2010 has started and it is about time we put on our wizards hats and attempted to predict the future.  Consider this half wish list, half observation, with a pinch of idea and a dash of asking around.  Without further ado, Retro Scene Mag's trend predicitions for 2010 are as follows

Race Car Inspiration

You can't have failed to notice that we are big fans of circuit racing on this here blog.  We're not the only ones it appears, mroe and more people are taking cues from circuit racers, either for track day cars or just for show.  This can take the form of choosing to upgrade in the style of a circuit racer, rather than just ditch an engine and throw in something with a V8, or it may be livery choices, stance, body kit or trying to capture the circuit racer vibe.  Another area for consideration here is the repurposing of racing cars back to road cars, effectively someone has already bought, built and tuned the car, now you just need to get it back to being road legal.  Expect to see a few more nods in this direction as you head round the shows this year.

Modified Traditional British Cars

This is perhaps more aimed at the UK than anywhere else.  It seems the American's are quite adept at throwing all manner of engines in small British cars, in the UK we have a history of it, but recent years have seen a lot of energies spent on German cars.  Sure there is a big Ford scene here, but MG, Triumph, Austin and Co. seem to get overlooked now days.  With a few really well turned out examples turning up at shows last year, a good supply of base cars and a lot of parts availability we can see a number of people opting to try their hand with a Sprite, Magnette, TR7 and all manner of other British cars over the coming couple of years.

Motorvation Come To Life

The old Street Machine motorvation drawings have been covered on this blog before.  Whilst a few of them did actually get built, they were more of an exercise in encouraging ideas and challenging the tried and test routes.  People that grew up reading those magazines now have the money and the skill to produce more cars, whats more with the internet showing so many styles from around the world people are pushing themselves more and more to produce something a little different.  Expect more pickup, van and transporter conversions, more radical ideas being attempted.  Hoepfully it won't result in a lot of bodge and half finished builds.

Modern Wheels Retro Car

We noticed this floating around a few shows last year, sure the Australians have been at this for a while, and there are a few cars with some, shall we say unusual, modern wheel choices about in Europe and beyond.  Now though we've noticed people sticking more modern rims on their classic cars with a bit more thought, perhaps it is the dream of that flush stance we see on so many modern builds, or the racing influence we noted above, but it a trend we are happy to embrace here at RSM towers.

BMWs

I blame Mike Burroughs.  His car has been all over the net in its various guises, then he starts showing pictures of friends rides and the wider net gets exposed to the BMW scene, with a whole bunch of nicely modded cars, the usual formula applies, clean, wheels, low, stance, jobs a goodun.  With the entry price of a good BMW E30 or E21 being far lower than a VW it seems this is a great entry level vehicle with bags of potential and some very inspirational rides already out there.  Expect more in 2010.

As ever the chance of all or even any of these coming true is at best 50/50, but thats what we think, what do you reckon will be big in 2010?  Are you building it right now?

Great post & Fantastic blog! I would definitely love to begin a blog too but I have no clue where to begin. I possess the ability to do it (not that challenging on the technical part) but I really feel like I am too lazy to post regularly. That is the problem, if you start you have to go all the way. However blogs like yours inspire me to have a go at it.

I bet the World Cup would be extremely close!   I give it a coin toss with my opinion but good luck to both soccer teams! I should be watching the entire match!
