On the evidence so far this year I am cursed with shows, Bristol Classic Car Show cancelled due to flooding, then rescheduled, then it rained anyway, Kissimmee cruise, rained, Classic and Sportscar Action Day at Castle Combe, rain, for the first time in weeks.  I'm hoping this trend doesn't continue!

So what of the event itself?  Well the rain stopped just as the track action got going at around half past nine, so for the majority of the day the event was rain free, the track took a couple of sessions to dry out, but it did eventually.  The club stands are diverse and interesting, with everything from Bristols to Imps on display, usually with a scattering of rare machinery on each stand.  This is the main reason I like this event so much, there is such a range of cars and people interested in getting out on the Castle Combe track that all sorts of cars come out the woodwork for it.  I particularly enjoyed seeing this brilliant Fiat 131, complete with chains holding the mudflaps in place.

This year saw the event celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Capri so there were a lot there, including Vince Woodmans Cologne, a genuine Tickford and even more obscure specials.  Track wise the action lived up to exactly what I expect of the event now days, tussles between unlikely cars, the Golf R32 battling against a Mk2 Jaguar being one particular highlight.

All in it was another great event, the damp start had put off a number of visitors, which was a shame, but the people that did come out for it more than made up the numbers.  I'll be going again next year that is for sure.

Have a look through our flickr gallery of the event here.  Then mark it in your calendar for next year, it really is an event worthy of your attention.
