Trends : 80's Accesories

Fashion goes round and round and round, eating itself in ever more interesting and inventive ways, it works in a twenty to twenty-five year cycle.  There is no escaping it, music, design, clothes, and of course modified cars.

We guess it is an age thing, those cars that you drooled over in Street Machine when you were eight years old are now the cars that you can afford, inevitably you want to own a bit of the modified dreams of your youth.

Clearly music has gone 80's synth crazy over the past twelve months, and inevitably it will continue for the next twelve.  So what of the car scene?

Really it has been slowly happening already, the desire for the oh-so 80's Centra wheels and the like being aired on various forums.  The re-evaluating of the wide Mattig and Dimma bodykits as something with potential for greatness.  The European scene has been applying outlandish airbrushing to their cars for a while, some of which wouldn't look out of place on a mini-truck, or if you paired down the designs a bit you end up with some awesome dub scene graphics circa-1989.  Which also brings us on to the whole Back To 89 thing that is going on in UK VW circles.

I don't know if we'll see pastel colours, body kits, window louvers and the like on loads of cars, but I think there is a renewed appreciation for that time.  Hopefully some of the ideas will bleed out into the current scene and inspire us to try renewed ideas with the sort of techniques we have available to us now.
